చాలా రోజుల తరువాత తెలుగులో ఒక మంచి సినిమా చూసిన అనుభూతిని మిగిల్చిన చిత్రం ‘రాజన్న’. ఒక కాల్పనిక జానపద హీరో కథని చారిత్రక నేపధ్యంలో సృష్టించి ఆ కాలపు చరిత్రతోపాటూ, స్థానిక సంస్కృతిని, నమ్మకాలను, జనపద ఒరవడులను అల్లుకుంటూ హృద్యమైన కథ చెప్పడం అభినందించదగ్గ ప్రయత్నం. ప్రధానకథ ఊరిమంచి కోసం ప్రధానమంత్రి నెహ్రూకి దొరసాని దౌర్జన్యాల్ని వివరించడానికి చిన్నారి మల్లమ్మ (బేబి ఆనీ) చేసే అద్వితీయ ప్రయాణానిదే అయినా, ఉపకథగా మల్లమ్మ తండ్రి రాజన్న(నాగార్జున) సాహసగాధ జోడించేసరికీ ఉపకథే అసలు కథగా తయారయ్యింది. ఈ స్క్రీన్ ప్లే తికమకని క్షమించగలిగితే ఈ సినిమాలో ప్రేమించడానికి చాలానే ఉన్నాయి. మంచి నటన, రక్తికట్టేసన్నివేశాలు, ఆహ్లాదంతోపాటూ ఉత్తేజపరిచే పాటలూ- సంగీతం వీటిల్లో కొన్ని. అప్పుడప్పుడూ చాంతాడంత డైలాగులూ, నిదానంగా సాగే దృశ్యాలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ సినిమా మొత్తం పూర్తయ్యాక “హమ్మయ్య ఎంతకాలానికి తెలుగులో గొప్ప సినిమా కాకపోయినా ఒక మంచి కథ ఉన్న సినిమా వచ్చింది” అనిపించక మానదు.
ఇప్పటికే తెలుగు సినిమా అనవసరపు వేగానికి, స్థానికతలేమికి, సామాజికసాంస్కృతిక దిగజారుడుతనానికి, అర్థంపర్థం లేని కథలకి, ఎందుకున్నారో తెలీని కామెడీ పాత్రలకి, పైటజారుడు హీరోయినిజానికి అలవాటుపడిన చాలా మంది తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకులకు ఈ సినిమా పెద్దగా నచ్చకపోవడం అర్థంచేసుకోతగ్గ పరిణామం. కాబట్టి అలాంటి ప్రేక్షకుల సలహా మీరు వినేవాళ్లైతే ఈ సినిమాకు దయచేసి వెళ్ళకండి. సినిమా ఇచ్చే కిక్కులకు సీట్లమీద గెంతడానికి కాకుండా తెరను తేరిపారా చూస్తూ చారిత్రకజానపదలోకంలోకి ఒక ఎమోషనల్ జర్నీ చెయ్యాలనుకుంటే వెళ్ళండి.
నాగార్జున ఇలాంటి సినిమా నిర్మించి (తన పాత్ర నిడివిని పట్టించుకోకుండా) నటించడం అభినందించదగ్గ విషయం. దర్శకుడు కథకుడు విజయేంద్రప్రసాద్ ఈ చిత్రంతో విజయం సాధించాడనే చెప్పాలి. కాకపోతే తనయుడు రాజమౌళి కాంట్రిబ్యూషన్ తో తెరపై హింస మితిమీరిందేమో అనిపించకమానదు. ఏది ఏమైనా…రాజన్న నాకు నచ్చింది.

సినిమా మీకు నచ్చింది అనటం వరకూ బాగానే ఉంది. మిగిలినవాళ్లు ఎవరి మాట విని వెళ్లాలో, ఎవరి మాట విని వెళ్లకూడదో కూడా మీరే నిర్ణయించటమే బాగాలేదు. మీరు తప్ప మిగిలిన ప్రేక్షకులంతా దద్దమ్మలూ, చవటలూ అని మీ నమ్మకమా?

సానుకూలంగానో ప్రతీపంగానో సలహా ఇవ్వడానికీ, సిఫారసు చేయడానికే కదా సమీక్షలున్నది. ఆ హక్కు రచయితకి లేదనడం భావ్యం కాదు. ఇది ఏ తరహా సినిమాయో అభివర్ణించడంలో అదొక స్టైల్. మహేష్ గారితో ఏకీభవిస్తున్నాను.

రీరికార్డింగ్ తో సినిమా స్థాయిని ఎలా పెంచవచ్చో రాజన్న చూస్తే తెలుస్తుంది..అవకాశం దొరికినప్పుడల్లా కీరవాణి గారు అద్భుతమైన బాక్ గ్రౌండ్ మ్యూజిక్ ఇచ్చారు..comercial సూత్రాలకి దూరంగా వున్న కథకి ఇంత బడ్జెట్ పెట్టి సినిమా మీద వున్న ప్రేమని నాగార్జున గారు చాటుకున్నారు..

One thing that stands out like a sore thumb in this film is Keravani’s music. The orchestration is shockingly sub-standard in songs and BGM. What went wrong? If Keeravani is not getting good quality musicians in Hyderabad, he should probably consider recording in Chennai, or atleast get some one who knows how to get better output with Synth. Two thumbs down!

Sorry.. I did not like this movie. Not one bit of it. Even tough it started well it very soon degenerated into one of those “formula’ quickies that our Telugu field is famous for.
They could have kept the story simple by concentrating on the journey of that little girl from her village to Delhi. That journey itself could have been the metaphor for the Telangana struggle of that times. Instead the movie goes off on a tangent and brings in Nagarjuna into it as a very loud and unconvincing Rajanna and also having a long prologue before the little girl actually starts her journey.
Rajanna in the background as an unseen mentor, as a myth and role model would have been a powerful symbol instead of the loud portrayal by Nagarjuna.
Bad production values, overacting, stereotypical portrayals of characters and garbled screenplay make this eminently unwatchable. This looks more like an attempt by Nagarjuna(and Akkineni family) to please the Telangana activists and escape their ire. If so, I hope it served it’s purpose.
Another sad thing is, I thought I finally found an authentic voice for cinema critique in Navatarangam.com which provided a unbiased and very well analyzed reviews of cinema where all aspects of a movie are reviewed and discussed in an honest way, but this review is making me rethink that. I am sorry for being a little too direct with my comments and if I have hurt anyones feelings here.
