తృష్ణ-The next big thing?
స్లమ్ డాగ్ మిలియనీర్ తర్వాత ప్రపంచ సినిమా దృష్టి మన భారతదేశం పై పడిందని చాలా మందే అన్నారు. ఆ క్రమంలో మన దేశం బ్యాక్ డ్రాప్ లో కొన్ని సినిమాలు నిర్మింపబడ్డాయి కానీ ఏదీ కూడా స్లమ్ డాగ్ మిలియనీర్ అంత ప్రాచుర్యం పొందలేదు. కానీ ఈ మధ్యనే మన దేశంలోని రాజస్థాన్ నేపధ్యంలో నడిచే బ్రిటిష్ సినిమా ఒకటి ఫెస్టివల్ సర్క్యూట్ లో దుమ్ము దులిపేస్తుంది. ఆ సినిమా పేరే “తృష్ణ
స్లమ్ డాగ్ లో లాగే ఈ సినిమాలో కూడా ఫ్రిడో పింటో ముఖ్య పాత్ర పోషిస్తోంది. ఈ సినిమా దర్శకుడు మైఖేల్ వింటర్ బాటమ్ కూడా డానీ బోయ్లె లాగే బ్రిటీష్ వాడు కావడం యాధృచికంగా అనిపిస్తున్నా ఈ సినిమా మాత్రం – స్మమ్ డాగ్ లో భారతదేశాన్ని నీచంగా చూపించారని బాధ పడ్తున్న వారిని మాత్రం అసలు బాధ పెట్టదు(ట).
Michael Winterbottom avoids Slumdog-style kitsch to create an Indian Tess of the d’Urbervilles as compelling as Hardy’s
థామస్ హార్డీ రచించిన Tess of the d’Urbervilles అనే నవల అధారంగా ఈ సినిమా నిర్మింపబడింది. ఇదే నవల అధారంగా రోమన్ పొలాన్స్కీ గతంలో టెస్ అనే ఒక చిత్రాన్ని నిర్మించి ఉన్నారు.
Trishna is Winterbottom’s take on Tess of the d’Urbervilles, filmed previously by Roman Polanski in Tess, an epic, slow but hypnotic period movie. Winterbottom’s version is shorter, set very much in the present, and diverts from Hardy’s text in many ways, but is just as compelling.
The technical qualities are superb. India is more than just a backdrop, the camera captures a studious, almost documentary-style vision of the country, one that never segues into kitsch, post-Slumdog cultural tourism.

Michael Winterbottom made a movie caled ‘A Mighty Heart’ with India/Pakistan backdrop.
He has also adapted 2 other novels by Thomas Hardy and made them into Jude and The Claim.
And also I don’t call Slumdog’s style as kitsch , it is reality that’s missing in most Indian movies.
