నవతరంగం లో ’వెల్ డన్ అబ్బా’ గురించి ఇప్పటివరకూ ఎవరూ రాయకపోవడాన్ని ఖండిస్తూ – ఈటపా 
కథ: అర్మాన్ అలీ (బొమన్ ఇరానీ) ముంబైలో ఒకరి కారు డ్రైవర్ గా పని చేస్తూంటాడు. సెలవు పై వెళ్ళినవాడు…దొరికిన సెలవుకంటే చాలా ఎక్కువరోజులు ఉండిపోయి తిరిగొస్తే, యజమాని తిట్టి, పని మానెయ్యి పొమ్మంటాడు. దానితో అర్మాన్ అలీ అతన్ని బ్రతిమాలుకుని, అసలేం జరిగిందో చెబుతాను, తర్వాత మీ ఇష్టం – అని అంటాడు. యజమాని ముంబై నుండి పూణే వెళ్ళేదారి పొడువునా, బండి నడుపుతూ, అతను తన ఆలస్యానికి కారణం చెబుతాడు. ఎందుకు? అన్నదే సినిమా కథ.
నచ్చినవి:
-బొమన్ ఇరానీ నటన. ముఖ్యంగా – ఆ ఫొటోగ్రాఫర్ వద్ద ఫొటో తీయించుకునే దృశ్యం చూసి ఎంతగా నవ్వుకున్నానో! అలాగే, అతని రెండో రోల్ కూడా అక్కడక్కడా నవ్వించింది.
-కథా గమనం : ఎక్కడా బోరు కొట్టలేదు.
-డ్రీం సీక్వెన్సులు, సంబంధంలేని పాటల్లేకపోవడం : సుఖంగా, ఫ్లో దెబ్బతినకుండా హాయిగా అనిపించింది.
-గ్రామాల్లో ఆడ సర్పంచులను కంట్రోల్ చేసే వారి భర్తలపై సెటైర్ బాగుంది.
-అలాగే, బావి కోసం ఇచ్చే గ్రాంట్లు ఎలా గుటకాయ స్వాహా ఔతాయో బాగా చూపారు.
-’వెల్కం టు సజ్జన్పూర్’ మార్కు హాస్యం.
-సంభాషణలు చాలా బాగున్నాయి.
-నటీనటులందరూ బాగా చేశారు.
నచ్చనివి:
-ఒకే సినిమాలో చాలా విషయాలు చర్చిద్దామనుకోవడం. ఉదాహరణకు – ప్రీతీనిగమ్ వాళ్ళమ్మాయి అరబ్ షేక్ పెళ్ళి వ్యవహారం – అంత సీరియస్గా చర్చించాలి అనుకుంటే, కాస్త స్క్రీన్ స్పేస్ ఇవ్వాలి. లేదంటే, చర్చించకూడదు. ఆ ఒక్క సీన్లో బొమన్ ఇరానీ మనసు మారిపోవడం – అతి వేగమైన మార్పుగా అనిపించింది.
ముగింపు : అర్మాన్ అలీ (బొమన్ ఇరానీ) కథ పూర్తి చేయగానే, అతను కారు నడుపుతూ, యజమాని నవ్వుతూ ఉండగా కథ ముగుస్తుంది. అంటే ఏమిటన్నట్లు – ఈ కథ ఇలా ఎంటర్టైనింగ్ గా ఉంది కనుక, యజమాని అతన్ని క్షమించేసి పన్లోకి తీసుకున్నాడు అనుకోవాలా? ముగింపు విషయంలో కాస్త శ్రద్ధ పెట్టి ఉంటే బాగుండు అనిపించింది.
-ఆ రవికిషన్, అతని భార్యగా సోనాలీ కులకర్ణి -వీళ్ళని అన్నిసార్లు చూపడం అనవసరం ఏమో అని అనుమానం వచ్చింది.
-మీగ్గానీ ’వెల్కం టు సజ్జన్పూర్’ నచ్చి ఉంటే ఈ సినిమా తప్పక చూడండి. అలాగే, కొన్ని చోట్ల బొమన్ ఇరానీ కోసమైనా ఈ సినిమా తప్పక చూడాలి. డీవీడీలు దొరుకుతున్నాయి. అయితే, కాస్త పట్టుబట్టి వెదకాలి. వెదికీ వెదికీ దొరక్క – డీవీడీ షాపులో వాడి దగ్గర అప్పు తీస్కున్నాం మేము! బెనెగల్ ఇలాంటి కథాంశాలతో సినిమా తీయడం నాకు మహా ఆనందంగా ఉంది.

ఇప్పుడు మీరు రాశారుగా…బాగుంది
ఈ సినిమా నేను థియేటర్లో చూడలేకపోయా. DVD లో అనివార్యమైన కారణాలవల్ల చాలా బ్రేక్స్ తో చూడ్డం జరిగింది. నాకు నచ్చిందిగానీ పెద్ద impact చెయ్యలేకపోయింది.
రెండు పాత్రల్లోనూ బొమ్మన్ ఇరానీ is rocking in the film. ఇలాఅరుణ్ లోని వర్సటాలిటీని పట్టుకోవడంలో శ్యామ్ బెనెగల్ రెండు సినిమాల్లోనూ సఫలమయ్యాడు. We miss her in mainstream cinema.

Well Done Abba, a film with a title that is two thirds English and one third Urdu, is a mostly Deccani (Urdu) and a bit of Telugu film made by Hyderabad’s own Shyam Benegal. Set in a village called Chikatpalli, somewhere in the vicinity of Hyderabad, the film is based on Jeelani Bano’s famous urdu short story Narsayya ki bavdi (Narsayya’s well) and a few other short stories. The film, shot mostly outdoors, has a distinctly Telugu flavor in the names of many characters, occasional dialogue, and even a song that starts “okaTi, reMDu, mooDu….” Benegal enthusiasts may remember that some of the characters in his venerated debut fim Ankur spoke in Telugu.
The film starring Boman Irani as the hapless protagonist Anwar Ali, and Minishha Lamba as his spriited daughter Muskaan, and many of the Benegal regulars in comedic cameos, is a well made, entertaining satire. As a committed governance reforms guy, I was pleased to see the heroine put the Right to Information act to good use
The last two movies of Shyam Benegal happen to be fairly straight forward small budget comedies! I enjoyed both of them, but still long for the Benegal of yore!
Definitely recommend the film; Good, clean, fun!

Recently I too watched this movie!!
I love Shyam Benegal for bringing the stardom to such a small film, though everything else was big!!
చిన్న జీవితాలలోని కష్ట సుఖాలని మనకి, చాలా సున్నితంగా స్పృశిస్తూ చేసిన ఈ ప్రయత్నం నిజంగా అభినందనీయం!
