విడుదల కాకుండా ఆగిపోయిన సినిమా ఒకటి ఎలాగోలా రిలీజ్ చేసిపెట్టాలని ఒక తెలిసినాయన వస్తే నాకు తెలిసినంతలో సహాయం చేస్తున్నాను. ఆ process లో నేనూ చాలా విషయాలు నేర్చుకున్నాను. ఇందులో ముఖ్యంగా నాకు బాగా తెలిసొచ్చిన, బహుశా భవిష్యత్తులో ఉపయోగపడే ఒక విషయం ఏంటంటే డిజిటిల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్.

మన రాష్ట్రంలో డిజిటిల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ సదుపాయం కలిగిఉన్న సినిమా థియేటర్లు ఉన్నాయని తెలుసుకానీ ఆ థియేటర్లు ఎక్కడున్నాయి? అసలా థియేటర్లలో సినిమాలు ప్రదర్శించాలంటే procedure ఏంటి? అసలు డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ వల్ల ఏమైనా లాభాలున్నాయా? లాభాల సంగతి పక్కనపెడితే డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ వల్ల ఏమైనా నష్టాలున్నాయా? లాంటి విషయాలు మొన్నమొన్నటి వరకూ తెలియలేదు.

ఇప్పుడిప్పుడే ఈ విషయం గురించి కొన్ని విషయాలు తెలుసుకుంటున్నాను. ఆ విషయాలు కొన్ని ఈ రోజు రన్నింగ్ కామెంట్రీలో….

ప్రస్తుతం మన సినిమా హాళ్ళలో సినిమా ప్రదర్శన ఎలా జరుగుతుందో చెప్పాల్సిన అవసరం లేదనుకుంటాను.వేగంగా తిరుగుతుండే ప్రొజెక్టర్, అందులో లోడ్ చేసే ఫిల్మ్ రీళ్ళు సంగతుల గురించి అందరికీ తెలిసిందే. అయితే డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ లో అలా కాదు. ఇక్కడ ఫిల్మ్ రీలు ఉండదు. అలాగే గిర్రున తిరిగే ప్రొజెక్టరూ ఉండదు. మనందరం ఎక్కడో దగ్గర డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్టర్ చూసి ఉంటాము. ఆఫీసుల్లో ప్రెజెంటేషన్స్ కోసం వాడుతుంటాము. ఇలాంటి ప్రొజెక్టర్ లో కాస్తా పెద్దదాన్ని ఇప్పుడు సినిమా థియేటర్స్ లో వాడుతున్నారు. మనం ఆఫీసుల్లో కంప్యూటర్ కి ప్రొజెక్టర్ కి కనెక్ట్ చేసినట్టు సినిమా థియేటర్లో కూడా ఒక కంప్యూటర్ నుంచి సినిమా ప్రొజెక్ట్ చేస్తారు. ఆ విధంగా సినిమా రీలు ప్రింటు చేసే ఖర్చు తగ్గుతుంది. ఇదొక్కటే కాకుండా డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ వల్ల వేరే ఉపయోగాలు కూడా ఉన్నాయి.

మన రాష్ట్రంలో డిజిటిల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ రంగంలో UFO మరియు QUBE అనే రెండు సంస్థలు ఉన్నాయి.

What does the UFO Digital Cinema system offer?

• Usage-based business model with no upfront or fixed costs borne by thecinema owner.
• UFO uses the MPEG-4 format which compresses a movie up to 8 to 10 GB allowing the exhibitor franchisee to store multiple movies in the server and have scheduling facility.
• Satellite delivery of content is possible due to MPEG-4 format compression. Delivery of an MPEG-4 file takes around 150 minutes compared to an MPEG-2 fi le which would take 25 hours. Films are delivered to sites across India efficiently and at no incremental cost.
• A secured link is maintained between the server and projector using High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) protocol. Movies copied from UFO theatres with a camcorder can be identified as images are finger printed, with the marks caught by recorders. The source of pirated content can thus be identified.
• License to play the fi lm is delivered onto smart cards via DVB link which ensures no unauthorized access to codes which play the film. The license can be revoked in the same manner at the instruction of the distributor or producer.
• The UFO server has a storage capacity of 120 GB, which allows the storage of up to 12 movies and scheduling. The flexibility in scheduling offers the benefits of a multiplex for a single screen theatre.
• The permi t t ed number of screenings is controlled through the smart card upon fi nalization of commercial terms between exhibitor and distributor.
• The digital cinema system is secure with 192-bit AES encryption from its source. Decryption occurs only at projection.

UFO వాళ్ళకి దాదాపుగా వందకి పైగా డిజిటల్ ప్రొజక్షన్ సదుపాయం కలిగిఉన్న థియేటర్లు ఉన్నాయి. వాటి వివరాలు ఇక్కడ చూడొచ్చు. ఇక్కడొక చిత్రమైన విషయమేమిటంటే, డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ అనే కొత్త టెక్నాలజీ హైదరాబాదు లాంటి పట్టణాల్లోని థియేటర్లలో అంతగా లేకపోగా పాయకరావుపేట, బొబ్బిలి లాంటి చిన్న ఊర్లలో ఉండే థియేటర్లలోనే ఈ డిజిటిల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ సదుపాయాలు ఎక్కువగా ఉన్నాయి. మన దగ్గర డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ అంతగా పాపులర్ కాకపోవడానికి కారణం ఇదే అనుకుంటాను. హైదరాబాదులోని పాపులర్ థియేటర్స్ కూడా డిజిటల్ కి మారితే అప్పుడు సీన్ మారొచ్చు.

అలాగే అసలీ డిజిటిల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ కి సంబంధించిన workflow గురించి తెలుసుకోవాలంటే ఈ క్రింది బొమ్మ చూడండి.

పైన బొమ్మలో చూపించినట్టు డిజిటల్ ప్రొజక్షన్ వల్ల ఫిల్మ్ రిలీజ్ ప్రింట్స్ చేసే అవసరం లేదు. అలాగే వాటిని హైదరాబాదు నుంచి అన్ని ప్రదేశాలకు తరలించే అవసరమూ లేదు. వీటన్నిటికంటే ముఖ్యంగా ఈ మధ్య సినిమాలు తీయడమే డిజిటల్ కెమెరాలతో తీస్తున్నప్పుడు వాటిని మళ్ళీ పిల్మ్ మీద ప్రింట్ చేయడమనేది అనవసరమైన పని. డిజిటల్ లో తీసిన సినిమాలను డైరెక్ట్ గా డిజిటల్ గానే ప్రొజెక్ట్ చేసుకోవడం సులువు, చాలా డబ్బులు కూడా ఆదా అవుతాయి.

అయితే డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ ద్వారా నిర్మాతలకు డబ్బులు మిగుల్తాయనే విషయమొక్కటే కాదు, Digital projection opens up a wide range of possibilities for cinema halls. ఈ డిజిటల్ ప్రొజక్షన్ ద్వారా సినిమా హాళ్లను పూర్తి స్థాయిలో వినియోగించుకోవచ్చు. అంటే సినిమా థియేటర్లు కేవలం సినిమా ప్రదర్శన కోసం మాత్రమే కాదు అనడానికి పైన చెప్పిన నాలుగు ఉదాహరణలు చాలవా?

కాకపోతే మనం సాధారణంగా సినిమా థియేటర్ల లో కేవలం సినిమాలు మాత్రమే చూడడం అలవాటు అయ్యాము. కానీ ఇప్పటికీ మన రాష్ట్రంలోని చిన్న చిన్న ఊర్లలో సినిమా థియేటర్లు కొన్ని సార్లు పెళ్ళిల్లకు ఉపయోగించడం తెలిసే ఉంటుంది. ఈ విధంగా చిన్న ఊర్లలో థియేటర్ల కి multiple purpose ఉన్నట్టే.

అలాగే ఈ మధ్య తమిళనాడు ఒక సంగీత కచేరీని రెడ్ కెమెరా ద్వారా రికార్డ్ చేసి థియేటర్లలో ప్రదర్శించినప్పుడు విపరీతమైన స్పందన లభించిందట. ఆ కచేరి గురించి మరిన్ని విషయాలు.

ప్రస్తుతం యునైటెడ్ కింగ్ డమ్ లో సినిమా థియేటర్లను మరో రకం గా ఉపయోగిస్తున్నారు. మీకందరికీ తెలిసే ఉంటుంది – UK లో నాటకాలకు, మ్యూజికల్స్ కు ఎంతో డిమాండ్ ఉందని. అక్కడ సినిమాలకంటే నాటకాలను ఎక్కువ ఇష్టపడతారు జనాలు. ఈ డిమాండ్ ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని ఈ మధ్యన ఒక కొత్త ప్రయోగం చేశారు అక్కడి వాళ్ళు. అదేంటంటే ఒక స్టేజి మీద ప్రదర్శిస్తున్న నాటకాన్ని UK లోని 50 సినిమా థియేటర్లలో ప్రత్యక్షప్రసారం చేశారు.

“It is something of an experiment,” said the National director, Nicholas Hytner. “But we felt that somebody has got to try it and if somebody has got to try it then it has got to be us.”

The season will be called NT Live. Initially there will be four plays beamed live by satellite for one night only to independent and art house cinemas across the UK to audiences that will have paid £10 a ticket. To try to regain some of the estimated £50,000 that it will cost to broadcast each play, the National also proposes to sell them for broadcast abroad.

అలాగే నెల్లూరులో విజయమహల్ అని ఒక వీడియో థియేటర్ ఉండేది. మామూలు రోజుల్లో ’అదో’ రకం సినిమాలేసుకుంటూ బిజీగా ఉండే ఆ థియేటర్ ఇండియా.పాకిస్తాన్ క్రికెట్ మ్యాచ్ వస్తే మాత్రం ఆ సినిమాలాపేసి స్క్రీన్ మీద క్రికెట్ ఆటను ప్రదర్శించేవాళ్లు. ఇది పదిహేనేళ్ళ కిందటి మాట. ఆ విధంగా ఈ థియేటర్ ఓనర్ ఎవరో విజనరీ అని చెప్పాలి.

ఎందుకంటున్నానంటే త్వరలో మొదలవ్వబోయే IPL matches ని సినిమా హాళ్ళలో ప్రదర్శించబోతున్నారట. ఇది ఒకప్పుడు సాధ్యం అయ్యేది కాదు. కానీ డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ ద్వారా ఇప్పుడది ఎవరికైనా సాధ్యమే. HD క్వాలిటీలో టివి లో టెలికాస్ట్ అయ్యే ఈ రోజుల్లో డిజిటిల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ facility ఉన్న థియేటర్లో ఆ టివి కి connect చేస్తే పెద్ద స్క్రీన్ మీద ప్రత్యక్షం అవుతుంది.

UFO Moviez India, one of the leading digital satellite cinema networks in India, will be showing IPL 2010 matches live in over 1,000 theaters across the country, its COO Pankaj Jaysinh said here today.

“We have tied up with Crown Infotainment, which has distribution rights for IPL 2010-2019 seasons, to show the cricket matches live in theaters,” Jaysinh told media persons here.

“Till date we have tied up for showing the matches at 650 screen across over 500 cities and towns in the country. We plan to increase this number to 1000 before the IPL begins on March 12,” he added.

Jaysinh said the matches will be screened in high definition digital format with out commercial interruptions.

“UFO Moivez has entered into a strategic alliance with multiplex chains like Cinemax, INOX, PVR, Fame and others to provide state-of-the art view experience for the audience,” the COO said.

In Gujarat, Jaysinh said that his company has already tied up for showing IPL matches with 65 screen owners and was expecting the number to rise to 85 before launch of IPL 2010.

The company has tied up with cinemas in tier-II and tier-III cities as well, he added.

ఇదంతా ఎందుకు చెప్తున్నానంటే డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ అనే టెక్నాలజీ ద్వారా కొత్త కొత్త ప్రయోగాలకు అస్కారం ఉంది. మన వాళ్ళు కూడా ఈ టెక్నాలజీ ద్వారా కొత్త మార్గాలు అన్వేషించాలని ఆకాంక్ష.

On a side note, ఈ డిజిటల్ ప్రొజెక్షన్ ద్వారా మనం మహా అంటూ చేస్తే మన సినిమాల ఆడియో రిలీజ్ ఫంక్షన్స్, సినిమా వంద రోజుల వేడుకలు, సక్సెస్ మీట్స్ లాంటి వాటివి లైవ్ టెలికాస్ట్ చెయ్యడం తప్పితే మరో విధంగా innovative గా ఆలోచించడం రాదని మా ఫ్రెండ్ ఒకడు తెగేసి చెప్పాడు. ఆలోచిస్తే నిజమేననిపిస్తుంది. చూద్దాం ఏ సినిమా వంద రోజుల వేడుక మనం సినిమా హాళ్లలో ప్రత్యక్ష ప్రసారంగా చూసే దురదృష్…..err..అదృష్టం పడుతుందో!
