Tell us about yourself..

I hold a Master degree in software engineering from Fairfield University, Connecticut. I am planning to pursue a music degree in future should time permit. టెలీకాం VAS based company TeleDNA లో సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఇంజినేర్ గా పనిచేస్తున్నాను.

Software pro into music production.. quite a switch..what prompted you to enter the world of music production?

It was in 2003 when I sang my first song “అమ్మాయే సన్నగా” from ఖుషీ in one of my cousin’s wedding; I was thrilled by the great applause from the audience. My grandmother was a violinist and a singer. Therefore, I would say a mixture of genetics and God’s grace.. I started off composing my own tunes, writing songs and after five years of dedicated hard work here I am with my album ‘Rockstar’. I’ve gone through so much pain, pressure, up’s and down’s in getting my album out. But finally it happened! ‘Rockstar’ will be officially in market in next couple of weeks. I whole heartedly thank Lahari Audio company for accepting to distribute my album. I hope you all will make this album a great success..

How did you manage your software job and music production? Did you have to go through a lot of sleepless nights during this process?

Talk to me about it.. I have and I am going through a 9 to 5 software job and then a 8 to …. let’s say when my mood tells me to power off my keyboard. Most of my compositions are done after 10 pm.

Who supported you through this process of music album production?

My parents, nothing would have been possible without them. It’s through their support and encouragement I got here this long.

We understand music album creation is an arduous process. Tell us your experiences..

For sure you can make a movie on “how to create an album”. In my case I was the only one who had to run around in getting things in place, calling musicians, getting it recorded, hiring a cinematographer and crew for shooting the title song then mixing it….it was a ‘One man’s army’. But at the end after I had composed the songs, it was Solomon Raj who did a splendid job in on the music (Keyboard & rhythm). Definitely you would need someone in the field to help you.

We actually recorded & shot the official video of the title song in Seattle, USA and mixed all of it in A.M.Studio, Chennai. I desperately wanted it to be mixed in this studio because, the quality that comes out is amazing, the equipment they use exceeds industry standards, and last but not the least it is the academy award winner A.R. Rahman’s studio.

That’s why I told you earlier that I have gone through so much pain and pressure. I wanted every song I composed in this album to sound so different; had to literally push solo (Solomon) until I was satisfied. Also few of the compositions took almost a month just to come up with the right tune. But I wouldn’t regret in saying that though it was tough journey, at the end, after the songs were mixed and mastered; I had a chance to meet music genius Ilayaraja.

Tell us more about your meeting with Ilayaraja..

Ilayaraja was in a studio recording, and I was working on my album and I get a call from my sister in law that you’ll be meeting the genius tomorrow evening. I was shocked and speechless, in fact my hands and legs were shivering as if I had a viral fever. I met him next day, was just seeing him, I was like man.. this is your day. And he was like, “can you show me what you got “, I had my laptop and head phones ready and he just kept listening to it, there was silence in the room. After the song was over he took out the head phones and he goes, “your music has high standards and it’s really fresh, you have a wonderful voice and keep doing what you are doing and you’ll have success in future ventures”. I was spell bound.. what more do I want when the genius himself told me that I can take this path and I will succeed. He is just an amazing wonderful human being. The entire struggle I’ve gone through just flew away in a fraction of sec. I hope his words come true once my album is out.

What is the budget of ‘Rockstar’ production? Where did you do the recording?

Production wise I was little cautions; I did not want to spend too much on my debut album, because you know that you would not be getting it back. So it was not more or less. Production was done at Pacific studios, Seattle USA; A.M.Studios, Chennai, India; Mariyan digital, Chennai, India

We see that you have done a music video? How many days did you shoot your music video and whats the budget?

It was just one song and shooting a song in US is very very expensive, so I had to wrap it up in 2 days. It is 60% of the total budget.

Did you try to market your audio songs? Whom did you consult in Tollywood?

Luckily I got a chance to go to India on a business trip. And I was even luckier enough to get to meet the CEO of Lahari Recording Company. After listening to Rockstar songs, I was pleasantly surprised when they said they would be marketing my album. It was one of the happiest moments in my life.

What percent of budget could you recoup back?

All we can do is put our hard work and money on it, but never except anything back from a debut album.

What’s the major challenge in marketing audio albums?

There is a saying “It takes 7 people to find who you are looking for”, so my advice would be try using all your contacts and make sure you give your first debut album to a distribution company and they will do their job. But remember you are coming up with an album, because it’s your passion, don’t expect anything from it… when time comes you’ll get what you deserve.

Tell us your experiences with your music director Soloman Raj?

Initially it was hard for me to work with him as I was in US and he was in India, I had to send him the compositions and he would send back his work, so all I had to do is call him and get things done. My mom and dad know him more than I do. He had given his best and I am really happy after hearing the final output.

Who wrote the songs? Are you a lyric writer?

Rockstar album has eight songs and one video. I have written 5 songs, two were from a new lyricist who is also named Naveen. What a coincidence haa.. I love writing songs and I’ve been writing songs for quite some time now. I also compose tunes and music.

How many songs have you written so far and what is your favorite genre?

Yet to count. I like more of pop, R&B.

How long does it take you for writing songs and composing music? What albums are you releasing in future?

It depends on the mood, thoughts …etc. You can write and compose a song in 5 min and also you can do the same for days n days and never get there. It all depends on God’s blessings. I am currently working on a totally different project than my first album. It has so much new stuff in it; we’ll let you know more details once it’s all done.

Newspapers: eenadu, sakshi, andhrajyoti; Websites: greatandhra, TheTera and couple of others

Did you meet anyof the Tollywood music directors ?

I did’nt meet anyone, probably I would’ve if I was in india.

Who is your favorite music director and who is your favorite singer?

You already know, its music genius Ilayaraja and music maestro A.R. Rahman. I have so many favorite singers Shreya Ghosal, Harini, Karthik, Hariharan, Chitra, Haricharan …… and list goes on

What’s your advise to new singers and writers?

Be creative, keep trying and don’t leave your ambition until you succeed. If you have self confidence and you believe that you have talent don’t be afraid to bring it out.. for sure “Adrushtam mee thalupulu thaduthundi”.

Whats your opinion on నవతరంగం and ది తెర?

నవతరంగం is one of the few Telugu websites which is pretty popular among youngsters. It gives us up to date info for people away from home. ది తెర is one production company with highly skilled writes, composers and everything is fresh here, so new comers who are really interested in showing their talent, ది తెర ప్రొడక్షన్స్ is here for you..
