కన్నడ హీరో డాక్టర్ విష్ణువర్థన్(59) నిన్న రాత్రి మైసూరులో హార్ట్ ఎటాక్ తో మృతిచెందారు. ఇప్పటివరకూ 199 చిత్రాల్లో నటించిన ఆయన 2005 లో బెంగుళూరు యూనివర్సటీ నుంచి డాక్టరేట్ పొందారు. పుట్టణ్ణ కణగాల్ దర్శకత్వం వహించిన ‘నాగరహావు’ సినిమాతో ఆయన తన సినీ జీవితాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు. ఏడు సార్లు ఫిల్మ్ ఫేర్ అవార్డులను అనేక మార్లు స్టేట్ గవర్నమెంట్ అవార్డులును పొందారు. 2004లో ఫిల్మ్ఫేర్ లైఫ్ అచీవ్మెంట్, 2009లో డా.రాజకుమార్ అవార్డులు ఆయన పొందారు.
1950 సెప్టెంబర్ 18న కర్ణాటకలోని మైసూర్లో జన్మించిన అసలు పేరు సంపత్ కుమార్ . విష్ణు వర్ధన్ 1975 ఫిబ్రవరి 27 నటి భారతిని వివాహం చేసుకున్నారు. ఆయనకు కీర్తి, చందన అనే ఇద్దరు కూతుళ్లు ఉన్నారు.సినిమా రంగంలోనే కాక ఆయన సామాజిక కార్యక్రమాలలోనూ ఆయన విస్తృతంగా పాల్గొనేవారు. ఆయన మరణానికి నివాళులు అర్పిస్తూ కర్నాటక గవర్నమెంట్ స్కూల్స్,కాలేజిలకు ఒక రోజు శెలవు ప్రకటించింది. ఆయనకు నవతరంగం అంజలి ఘటిస్తోంది.

హార్ట్ ఎటాక్ మరో మంచి మనిషిని బలి తీసుకుందన్నమాట ! విష్ణువర్ధన్ కొన్ని తెలుగు సినిమాల్లో కూడా నటించారు అనుకుంటాను. తన నటన బాలన్స్డ్ గా బాగుంటుంది. ఇంకో తార నేల రాలిపోయినా, ఎంతో మంది మన్సుల్లో చిరస్తాయిగా ఉండిపోతుంది.

I do not think it is true that Vishnuvardhan received the National Best Actor award for Vamsavrksha. While the film itself is well acclaimed and won National directing awards for Girish Karnad and BV Karanth (it was jointly directed), I do not believe it won any acting awards. Also, whatver role Vishnuvardhan played in that movie must have been inconsequential; he did not portray any of the 3 main male characters in the film. I do not remember seeing him in the film or seeing Vishnuvardhan’s name in the PR material about the film. Karnad himself played a role (later played by Anil Kapoor in the Telugu version by Bapu and Ramana). Karanth also acted in the film.
Naagarahaavu was a sensational hit of the time and Vishnuvardhan became a rage overnight. The film was a dud when remade into Telugu (kODenaagu starring Sobhan Babu and Athreya) and Hindi (Zahreela Insaan with Rishi Kapoor).
