and mahesh about this
"an opportunity to create the same junk many films are doing at this pint in time, he chose a “story to tell”."
in films...its not JUST WHAT IT TELLS but also HOW IT TELLS
if its just about one theme or story..one can always read a book or essay about it..why film then ??
and thats where I highly object this film...
a story of such seriousness and intensity MUST be FLAWLESS...
if one makes the story of one girl n boy making out n parents catching n beating them ...he can make it in 1000ways...no harm
but when someone is touching delicate elements like society/social awareness and individual responsibility.....film MUST try to make it believable and do characterisation properly..
thats what totally absent in the movie
there is a film KAKHA kAKHA aka Ghashana in telugu...in wt way this film is different in it where police erases unscrupulous elements taking law in to hands??
infact the gud old ANKUSAM where the "teethy" Rajasekhar grabds baldu ramireddy on to charminar streets n kicks is much more well made (screenplay n charcter arc wise)
and about commercial elements..... last fight is not commercial ????
he chose not to put graphic / wired stunts ....may be bcos he dint like them...if u notice..mostly RGV also never uses it even in his faltooest movies...
cycle chain pulling....commercial element kaadA???
tooo much..... i remember RGV himself admitting in a recent interview on tv that " how can anyone pull a cycle chain ? its almost impossible.. i jus tadded it to make ppl go gala for my hero "
and this director copies that fight after some 15+yrs ...and we are clapping this film "REALISM "
what a shame...
I think these filmmakers are right..we all seem to have NO BRAIN and we are being made complete retards!!! we never see truth bcos we forgot wt it is

@Mahesh ,
Yes honestly is not Fact.. and a Virtue, but, what do you mean by saying this particular film is HONEST ??
thats WAS the ONLY POINT I SERIOUSLY DEFERRED WITH IN THE WHOLE ARTICLE...and I SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED I AM WRITING THIS IN DISGUST TO THE MEDIA's BIASED WRITING ABOUT a HONEST n REAL FILM
if saying what one wants is just the honest, why is not some RAJAMOULI or Shankar's film considered honest ??
because they show highend Graphics or huge sets??
expressing a story that way IS NOT HONEST then ?
chandamama katha HONEST kaadu , ART cinema maatramE honest ani enduku anTunnaru ??
it has become a fashion , if someone touches a lil bit of social awareness , add some socialist themes.. thats called honest ?
showing the navel of an actress is not honesty ,if thats what truly the filmmaker feel ?
I have seen shootings , for one stupid shot like , a grape falling in to heroine's navel and she gives expressions as if receiving an Orgasm...one has to place camera and arrange proper lighting and time the shot and synch it with music.. EVERYTHING IS HARD WORK..not just putting che guevera and bhagat singh photos on background ..everything IS HARD WORK only and everything is a SINCERE EFFORT only.
if the socalled commercial directors, think how to show a soft porn in song , thats their HONESTY in projecting sex
So if we talk about this being an honest film ,just for virtue of it ,then it is no different from any other film . Even the sickest shots n scenes in films are conceived and executed only when THE MAKERS involved in it ..
Recently I saw a stupid movie JOSH...and i felt...it is also a honest attempt...film might be bad, but thats how they wanted to make it and thats how it turned out...
most of the socalled nonsense movies are made in same way (if not every movie)
how come ARUNDHATI n MAGADHEERA is not HONEST and only BANAM is HONEST ?????
just tell me that.....
if everything else is honest this cannot be any different...apart from themes..

I agree 100% with the author of this post. This the usual repressed anguish that many like me share on the newly made Telugu movies.

This movie is equally different (DIFFERENT - most abused and misused word in Tollywood) and equally similar from the rest of the Telugu movies. You wanna kill 2 hours of your time - I suggest, this movie would be a better bet.

Shu, Mahesh is right. Honesty cannot be categorized into something absolute/pure. It is how one conceives/interprets things and based on which forms an opinion and considers it to be honest.

Coming to heated debate on this article, we should not forget that it is an individual perception that is described here. So no individual can claim that his/her opinion is THE only one and disrespect others opinions.

Often it is the taste of audience that matters while making movies; at the end of the day you want to sell your movie. There are audience who like mindless movies (the regular stuff) and also at the same time there are people who appreciate quality movies. Unfortunately the first kind of audience out number the other by a big margin.

Banam may be seen as a ray of hope in all the crap that is being churned out in Telugu movie industry. It may far from being perfect but it is an attempt towards it and we should appreciate the sheer intention of making a commercial movie with no regular commercial elements.

@శూ: నిజాయితీ (Honesty) అనేది FACT(నిజం) కాదు. అదొక విలువ(value or virtue).

ఇక్కడ లాజిక్ ఏమిటంటే, when the director had an opportunity to create the same junk many films are doing at this pint in time, he chose a "story to tell". He may not have had intentions to deceive the audience. Because he "honestly" believed that this is the kind of film he wanted to make.
